The American Theater

The American Theater on upper King Street in the late day sun.  The theater opened in 1942 and operated as a movie house until 1977, after which it has served a number of other purposes (it’s currently a meeting/event venue). In 2003, it performed on the other side of the camera lens when it was used as a setting for The Notebook, starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.
